In the workplace, first aid knowledge is paramount and could make the all the difference if someone falls ill or has an injury in the workplace. First aid at work courses have been designed to give employees skills in both the practical and theoretical aspects of first aid.

On completing their first response training, candidates have the knowledge and expertise to treat minor injuries and maintain the comfort and care of the casualty until professional help arrives. It is not designed as an alternative to seeking professional assistance, but more so to enable staff to deal with emergency situations in the first instance and keep casualties comfortable whilst waiting for the doctor or ambulance to arrive.

First aid at work courses cover topics such recovery positions, resuscitation, burns and scalds, treating bleeding, eye injuries, strokes, anaphylactic shock, choking, seizures, asthma, fractures and dislocations. It will also teach people the basic principles of first aid and how to assess an injury or illness.

By instructing your employees in first aid training you also give them vital knowledge which can be used in the event of an emergency – such as someone ingesting a poisonous substance, injuries due to a workplace fire or the release of gasses or fumes.

First response training courses can last for anything from 4 hours for a basic first aid course up to 3 days for first aid at work courses. Upon completion of their training, candidates will receive a Health & Safety Approved First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for three years.

The price of first aid courses will depend upon the length and type of course and the number of participants, but generally speaking it is usually more cost effective to train a larger number of employees at once rather than individually. First aid at work courses either take place at a training venue or, for larger groups, they can be organized to run at your work premises, so as to cause minimum disruption to your working day.
